A LOOK AT WASHINGTON STATE: Washington State (6-4-0) enters the weekend with losses to Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, and BYU in its last three games after beginning the 2002 campaign 6-1. The Cougars are led offensively by Nicole Wilcox, Alix Rostrum, and Rachel Rodrick, who have 14, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Sara Leibowitz allows an average of 0.90 goals per game and has made 21 saves on the year. As a team, the Cougs have outscored opponents 25-11 with a 15-5 advantage in first-half goals. WSU has outshot its foes 177-79.
OSU HISTORY WITH WASHINGTON STATE: OSU is 5-5-2 against the Cougars all-time. Last year's 2-2 tie came in the second-to-last game of the year when OSU was fighting for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The home team has not won a match in four years, dating back to OSU's 2-0 loss in Pullman in 1997. Going back to 1995, the home team has won only one of seven games.
A LOOK AT WASHINGTON: The Huskies (5-4-2) are winless in their last three matches, but those games have been against No. 4 Texas, No. 8 Texas A&M, and No. 5 Portland. In all, UW has played five teams ranked 17th or higher at the time of the game and has a 1-3-1 record against those teams. UW beat No. 17 Duke 4-3 in a double-overtime game on Sept. 6, lost to No. 1 North Carolina 5-1 on Sept. 8, tied 1-1 at No. 3 Texas on Sept. 27, lost 2-1 in overtime to No. 8 Texas A&M on Sept. 29, and lost to No. 4 Portland 4-0 on Oct. 5.
Junior Melissa Bennett leads the Husky attack with 18 points on four goals and 10 assists. Kim Taylor, Jaime Carstensen, and Tina Frimpong also have double-digit points. In goal, senior Hope Solo has 45 saves to go along with a 1.14 goals-against average.
OSU HISTORY WITH WASHINGTON: OSU's last win against Washington was a 1-0 decision in 1994. Overall, UW owns a 10-3-0 advantage in the series. The Beavers fell 1-0 to UW in the final game of 2001, effectively ending their quest for a NCAA Tournament bid. The teams went to double-overtime in 2000 before UW pulled out a 2-1 win.
