STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's basketball team opens preparations for the 2002-03 season this Saturday from 8:00-11:00 a.m. at Maples Pavilion. The practice is open to the public.

The Cardinal returns eight letter-winners after going 32-3 last season and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The returners are led by junior Nicole Powell, who was a Kodak All-American and Naismith National Player of the Year finalist a year ago.

Stanford has been ranked in the top 10 by every pre-season publication, and have been picked as high as No. 3 in the country (Lindy's). In addition, Powell is a consensus First Team Preseason All-American.

Stanford opens the 2002-03 season with an exhibition game against Love & Basketball on Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal opens the regular season on Friday, November 22 when it hosts Rutgers at 7:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
