Men's Soccer Win Streak Snapped At California

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 18 Oregon State men's soccer team had its school record seven-game win streak snapped at No. 15 California, 5-0 Friday afternoon in the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both schools.
Calen Carr scored California's first goal 12 minutes, 41 seconds into the game from the right side of the box about 12 yards out off an assist from Patrick Fisher.
The Bears closed the first half with three goals in a 10-minute span to take a 4-0 halftime lead.
Pietar Berger assisted Alex Martinez for a score and Mike Hickman added a goal, assisted by Carr and Mike Munoz.
Carl Acosta netted a kick from 25 yards out at the 37:36 mark. Hickman assisted on Acosta's fourth goal of the season.
Mike Munoz completed the scoring at 60:10 for California, which won its seventh consecutive game.
Oregon State had early scoring chances when Alan Gordon twice broke away for a one-on-ones with Cal goalie Josh Saunders, but both shots went wide.
The Beavers, who entered the game with a 9-1-0 record, managed only two shots on goal. OSU goalie Peter Billmeyer made five saves before being replaced by Matt LaMont, who held the Bears scoreless in his 21 minutes of action.
Oregon State will play top-ranked Stanford 1 p.m. Sunday.
