Stanford Returns Home: The Stanford women's golf team return home to host the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate, October 18-20 at the Stanford Golf Course (5,903, par 73) in Stanford, Calif. The 2002 tournament marks the 39th year the event. The Cardinal have taken home the top prize in its own event four times: 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1997. Stanford's individual medalists include Joanne Pacillio in 1982, Kathey McCarthy in 1984, Julie Carmichael in 1985, Mhairi McKay tied for first in 1995 and Hilary Homeyer in 1997.
Tournament Field: A total of 18 teams will participate in this year's tournament, including all 10 squads from the Pac-10 Conference. The field includes Texas Tech, California, Oregon State, New Mexico, Arizona State, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico State, Washington State, Arizona, Stanford, UCLA, San Jose State, Tulsa, Southern California, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Texas A&M.
Format: The teams will play 18 holes each day with tee times at 8 a.m.on Friday and Saturday from the first and 10th tees. Saturday will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Last Year: Tulsa took top honors at last year's event, carding a three-day total of nine-under par 855 - a new course record (54-hole team). They have won the event the last two years. Individual honors went to Tulsa's Stacy Prammanasudh who fired a course record 13-under par 203, eclipsing the old record held by SJSU's Janice Moodie (1996) who shot a 209. As a team, the Cardinal finished ninth overall with a 897. Kim Rowton led Stanford, tying for 27th overall (223) while teammate Angela Rho tied for 30th one stroke back (224). Kim Kouwabunpat tied for 40th (227).
Up Next: The Cardinal will next be in action at the Rainbow Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, October 29-30.
Last Time Out: The Cardinal captured their first top-five finish of the season at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational earlier this month, placing fifth as a team with a 905 over 54-holes. Senior Kim Rowton carded a three-round total of 221 (76-71-74) to finish sixth on the leaderboard. Freshman Kelly Husted posted her best finish on the young season as she tied for 13th with a 225 (76-77-72). Junior Angela Rho placed 18th after carding a 227 (76-78-73) for the tournament. Sophomore Wendra Liang tied for 29th with a 233 (79-78-76) while teammate Kim Kouwabunpat finished 42nd at 237 (82-79-75).
