Josh Amobi Named Pac-10 Defensive Player Of The Week
Oct. 14, 2002
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Tailback Sultan McCullough of USC, linebacker Josh Amobi of Arizona State and return specialist Keenan Howry of Oregon have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.
Josh Amobi, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., keyed the defensive effort in Arizona State's 13-9 win against Oregon State. Amobi had five tackles, four solo, including three tackles for loss (minus-27 yards), one of which was a quarterback sack for minus-19 yards. In addition, Amobi intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. His quarterback sack came on the final play of the game with Oregon State threatening from the ASU 15-yard line. The Sun Devil defense did not allow a touchdown and limited the Beavers to 15 first downs, nine yard rushing, 233 yards total offense, just 3-of-17 third-down conversions and intercepted three passes.
Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were receivers Reggie Williams of Washington, Jerome Riley of Washington State and Craig Bragg of UCLA, tailback Onterrio Smith of Oregon and quarterback Jason Johnson of Arizona. Also nominated on defense were linebackers Ben Mahdavi of Washington, Matt Grootegoed of USC and Lance Briggs of Arizona and cornerbacks Aaron Gipson of Oregon and Jason David of Washington State.
