COUGARS TAKE ON STANFORD, CAL:
The Washington State volleyballteam (14-3, 4-3 and tied for fourth in Pac-10) is on the road for the secondconsecutive week as the Cougars play at Stanford (14-3, 5-2) Thursday, Oct. 17,and at California (12-4, 3-4) Friday, Oct. 18...Stanford was upset by Arizona atTucson last weekend while the Golden Bears beat the Wildcats the nextnight...WSU is coming off a loss at Washington...matches begin at 7 p.m. PT.

COUGS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS:
After the loss at unrankedWashington, Washington State dropped one place to 17th in the USAToday/AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll...USC maintained its number oneranking...other Pac-10 members in the poll include No. 6 Stanford, No. 13UCLA, No. 19 Arizona and No. 21 Arizona State...also receiving votes thisweek is California (No. 26) and Washington (No. 36)...the Cougars are also17th in the Volleyball Magazine Top 20 poll while this week's opponents,Stanford is fifth and Cal is 22nd in the Oct. 14 poll.

NO. 6 STANFORD CARDINAL (14-3, 5-2 Pac-10):
National champs in 2001...losses this year were at No. 6 Florida (without Logan Tom), versus No. 1 USC, and a 3-2 loss at No. 20 Arizona last weekend...led by the 2001 Pac-10 and National Player of the Year, senior Logan Tom (4.61 kpg, 2.75 dpg)...sophomore Ogonna Nnamani (2001 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year) adds3.92 kpg...big blocks are the forte of Jennifer Harvey (1.49 bpg) and Sara McGee (1.41 bpg) who are one-two in Pac-10...coach John Dunning (47-5, 2nd year; career 484-107, 19 years)...Stanford leads the series 30-2...WSU has notyet won at Maples Pavilion in 16 tries...WSU's last win was in Pullman, 2000.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (12-4, 3-4 Pac-10 pending 10/17 vs. UW):
Last weekend, the Bears lost at ASU in five games but beat Arizona in three the night after the Wildcats upset Stanford...Croatian sophomore Mia Jerkov leads the conference in kills with a 5.88 kpg average...she also is fourth in digs (3.29 dpg) and service aces (0.48 sapg)...Camille Leffall adds 1.08 bpg (9th Pac-10)while hitting .398...Caity Noonan's 12.61 apg is fourth in the Pac-10 and she is ninth in aces (0.44 sapg)...coach Rich Feller (48-52, four years; career 347-219, 18 years)...WSU leads the series 22-17-1 overall, and 21-11 in Pac-10 contests...the series at Cal is tied at eight...WSU's won the last three matches.

WSU VOLLEYBALL'S ABC CAMPAIGN:
Cougar volleyball and the Breast Cancer Support Group of thePalouse, known as the Bosom Buddies, have joined together for the Attacking Breast Cancer (ABC) PledgeDrive...October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Cougar players will be collecting monetarypledges for each attack which results in a kill (and a point) for WSU during the eight matches this month...theplayers will wear pink ribbons to draw attention to the campaign...interested donors may contact the WSUvolleyball office at 509-335-0277.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF:
Head coach Cindy Fredrick is coaching her 14th season on the Palouse...herrecord at WSU is 259-167 (.608) while her overall collegiate record is 345-227 (.603) in 18 years...her Pac-10record is 119-122 (.494) in 14 years...assistant coaches are her husband, Dr. Mashallah Farokhmanesh (14thyear), and former Cougar standout, Jennifer Stinson Greeny (third year).-more-
