This weekend will wrap up the first half of league play. While USC anchors the top spot in the standings, the next seven teams are separated by two matches ... This week's FOX Sports Net match features two teams fresh off upset victories over Top 25 teams as the CALIFORNIA Golden Bears host the WASHINGTON Huskies Thursday, Oct. 17. The match will be tape delayed for airing on Saturday, Oct. 19 ... Last Friday's match in Tucson between ARIZONA and STANFORD drew a Pac-10 record 9,141 fans ... USC holds the No. 1 spot in both the USA TODAY/AVCA and Volleyball Magazine polls ... Defending Pac-10 and NCAA Champion STANFORD comes in at No. 6, with UCLA staying at No. 13, WASHINGTON STATE moving to No. 17, ARIZONA jumping to No. 19 and ARIZONA STATE rising to No. 21 in the AVCA poll ... The Pac-10 holds an impressive 74-17 record (.813) this season against non-conference competition.

ARIZONA'S KIM GLASS

Arizona outside hitter Kim Glass has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 7-Oct. 13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Glass, a freshman from Lancaster, Pa., tallied 53 kills in eight games over the weekend (6.62 kills per game), which included Arizona's come-from-behind victory over Stanford, 3-2. Against the Cardinal, Glass led all players with 28 kills and added seven digs and three total blocks. Versus California, she collected 25 kills on 51 attempts with only six errors, for a team-leading .373 hitting percentage. Her 25-kill performance was an Arizona school record for a three-game match. For the week, she notched a .321 hitting percentage.

The No. 19-ranked Wildcats (8-7, 3-4 in Pac-10) upset No. 6 Stanford, 3-2 and were swept by California, 3-0.

This is the second weekly honor for Glass, Arizona's 18th Player of the Week honor all-time.

PAC-10 NOTES

RANKING THE PAC-10 - For the third time this season, the Pac-10 has six teams ranked in the AVCA/USA Today Coaches Top-25: USC, Stanford, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State and Arizona State. The Conference narrowly missed having a seventh team in the top 25; with California recieving enough votes to finish at No. 26. The Pac-10 has had a team at the No. 1 ranking in both major polls for the seventh straight week.

ARIZONA - Freshman Kim Glass led all players with 28 kills in the Wildcats' come-from-behind win over Stanford (3-2), along with seven digs and three total blocks ... The match was played prior to Arizona's annual Midnight Madness basketball exhibition ... The 'Cats are 4-0 playing on the eve of the 'Madness' event ... Glass led Arizona with 25 kills on .373 hitting in a 3-0 loss to California ... Her 25 kills were a UA school record for three-game matches .... Glass averaged 6.62 kills per game over the weekend.

ARIZONA STATE- The Sun Devils improved to 5-0 in five-game matches this year with a come-from-behind win over California ... Junior setter Cheryl Anglin moved into second place on ASU's all-time career assists list, and now has 2,994 assists ... The Sun Devils posted a season-high 20.5 total blocks against the Bears ... Junior Juliana Escobar leads ASU, averaging 4.17 kills and 3.15 digs per game ... Sophomore Alicia Akporiaye had 18 kills and 28 digs in two weekend matches, including a career-high 18 digs (14 kills, 8 total blocks) versus Cal.

CALIFORNIA - The Bears defeated Arizona for the first time since 1995, earning the 3-0 victory ... Sophomore Mia Jerkov has been the Golden Bears' kills leader in all sixteen of their matches ... She recorded 54 kills and 28 digs over the weekend ... Senior Leah Young had a big performance in the loss to Arizona State, putting down a career-high 24 kills and a .432 hitting percentage.

OREGON - Ducks' freshman Jaclyn Jones had a breakout performance in a loss to No.1-ranked USC, notching eight kills and a .462 hitting percentage ... Junior libero Lindsay Murphy had her 10th Conference match with 10 or more digs versus UCLA, with 10 digs in the match.

OREGON STATE - Sophomore Allison Lawrence and freshman Karah Rhodes led the Beavers with double-digit kills (12 and 10, respectively) in a 3-0 loss to UCLA ... Senior Nikki Neuburger had 18 digsto lead Oregon State ... Senior Michele Solomon led the Beavers in kills with nine in OSU's 3-0 loss to No.1 USC.

STANFORD - Senior outside hitter Logan Tom needs 18 digs to reach 1,000 for her career. When that happens, she'll be the fifth Cardinal all-time to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for a career ... Junior middle blocker Jennifer Harvey has 39 blocks over the last five matches (1.95 bpg). She has recorded seven or more blocks in a game on six occasions this year. Harvey leads the Pac-10 with 1.49 blocks per game ... The Cardinal are at home this weekend vs. the Washington schools where they have posted a 31-1 record against the two schools in Maples Pavilion.

UCLA - Sophomore outside hitter Brynn Murphy hit .488 in a pair of Bruin victories last weekend, collecting 13 kills in the win over Oregon State and 11 kills in the win over Oregon ... Four different Bruins have led, or tied for the team lead in kills in each of the last four matches. A balanced Bruin attack has five players with 160 or more kills this season: senior outside hitter Lauren Fendrick (223/3.54 kpg), sophomore outside hitter Brittany Ringel (186/3.15 kpg), Murphy (168/2.80 kpg), sophomore outside hitter Heather Cullen (160/2.71 kpg) and junior middle blocker Cira Wright (161/2.68 kpg).

USC - Following a pair of five-game victories the week before, things returned to normal for the Women of Troy last week as they swept each of their three opponents in three games. USC is 12-0 in three-game matches this season and are 30-1 in three-game matches over the last two seasons ... Junior outside hitter April Ross needs 43 kills to reach 1,000 for her career ... The Women of Troy host rival UCLA this weekend. While UCLA has a 21-11 edge in Pac-10 matches, USC has won eight of the last 11 between the two schools.

WASHINGTON - The Huskies snapped a six match losing streak to Washington State with a 3-1 victory in Seattle last Friday ... Washington recorded its 11th win of the season, matching its entire win total from last season ... For the season, senior outside hitter Paige Benjamin has recorded 282 kills (5.22 kpg), besting her 281 kills (2.90 kpg) all of last season ... Benjamin needs four kills to reach 1,000 for her career. She'll be the 10th Husky all-time to reach that milestone ... The Huskies lead the Pac-10 in service aces with 2.33 service aces per game. Their 126 total services aces this season are just five aces short of matching last year's season total of 131 aces.

WASHINGTON STATE - Senior libero Kortney Jamtaas posted a career-high 30 digs in the loss at Washington. It was two digs shy of the WSU school record. Her 971 career digs rank 6th on the WSU all-time record list ... With 123 career service aces, senior outside hitter LaToya Harris needs 11 more to break the WSU career record ... Sophomore middle hitter Victoria Prince has six blocks in each of the last four matches she's played. She leads the Cougars with 1.16 blocks per game ... With the road trip to the Bay Area this weekend, the Cougars will have played four consecutive road games and six of their last eight away from home.
