Oct. 17, 2002

DURHAM, N.C. -- The current Arizona State Baseball freshmen class that will begin its collegiate baseball career with the Sun Devils during the 2003 season has been ranked sixth in the nation by Baseball America.

In addition to several freshmen that are expected to make an immediate impact, five transfers also add to the impressive recruiting class that will take the field for the first time in early January when the Devils open the 2003 campaign at Hawai'i-Hilo.

'This is an outstanding group of players who we are really excited to see take the field,' said ASU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jay Sferra. 'We feel confident that this group has some impact players (pitchers and position players) who will play right away.'

Also ranked among the top 10 in the annual Baseball America recruiting survey are Pac-10 rivals Stanford (No. 3), UCLA (No. 5) and USC (No. 9).
