Beavers Solid In Opening Round Of Stanford Pepsi Invitational
Oct. 18, 2002
Pendleton matched her second-best one round score of the year firing a 2-over-par 74, and is tied for 11th. Ashlei looks to have the inside track on what would be her 2nd career top-10 finish as a Beaver.
Whiting, who has been as consistent as any Beaver this fall, carded a 3-over 75 in pursuit of her third top-25 finish of the season. Leah currently is in a nine-way tie for 19th.
'Leah and Ashlei played really well today,' coach Rise Lakowske said. 'They both hung in there and got the ball up and down the course when they needed to.'
OSU is only one shot behind top-ranked Arizona, and holds an 11 shot lead on intrastate rival Oregon.
'The course is in great shape and I feel that we are right in there with some of the top teams,' Lakowske said.
UCLA came into the tournament unranked, but their first round 293 has them in first after day one. All five UCLA players shot a 74 or better.
The Beavers will look to move up the field on Saturday as they hit the links at 8:00 a.m.
