Cardinal Complete Weekend Sweep With 3-0 Win Over Washington

Stanford, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Logan Tom had a team-high 16 kills to lead the sixth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Washington tonight in Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 30-26, 30-18, 30-23.
The Cardinal improve to 16-3 overall, 7-2 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies drop to 12-6 overall, 4-5 in league play.
The two teams remained close in game one with Stanford leading 15-13 at the media timeout. Washington took its first timeout trailing 15-19 after a triple block by Logan Tom, Jennifer Harvey and Lindsey Yamasaki. The Huskies called a second timeout at 18-24 after a Sara McGee kill. The Cardinal reached game point on a Yamasaki kill at 29-24. Washington held off two game points before another Yamasaki kill gave Stanford the 30-26 win.
The Cardinal jumped out early in game two staking a 4-1 lead then increasing it to 12-6 on a Tom service ace. Stanford continued to roll going up 25-11 on a Washington error. Another Husky error gave the Cardinal game point at 29-18. Yamasaki's second service ace of the game gave Stanford the 30-18 victory.
Once again, the Cardinal opened strong taking a 13-5 lead on a Katie Goldhahn service ace. A Sara McGee kill put Stanford up 20-13 while a Logan Tom kill gave the Cardinal a 25-18 advantage. An Ogonna Nnamani kill helped Stanford reach game and match point at 29-23. A Tom kill closed the door on the match at 30-23.
Three Cardinal players notched double figures in kills tonight - Tom (16), Ogonna Nnamani (13) and Sara McGee (11). Middle blocker Jennifer Harvey led the match with six blocks on the night while freshman setter Katie Goldhahn had a career-high 40 assists for Stanford. Tom and libero Courtney Schultz each notched a match-high nine digs. Sophomore Jennifer Hucke tied her career-high with two service aces as well.
Washington was led by Paige Benjamin who had a match-high 17 kills on the night.
The Cardinal is next in action on Tuesday night against Pacific in Stockton, Calif. at 7 p.m.
