Edwards Enjoys Homecoming In 2-1 Overtime Win For Women's Soccer
Oct. 18, 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior forward Jessica Edwards (Mesa, Arizona) scored with 15 seconds remaining in double overtime Friday and the No. 12 USC Trojans defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils, 2-1, in Pac-10 Conference action at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. Edwards knocked the ball into an open net after a 50-50 ball with an ASU defender and goalkeeper.
Patrice Feulner put ASU (8-2-2, 1-1) on the board with her first goal of the year off of an assist from Stephanie Ebner in the 17th minute. Ebner found Feulner in the penalty area where she took the pass and lobbed it over USC goalie Julie Peterson and into the corner to get the home team on the board.
Ten minutes later, Elizabeth Bogus almost put the Sun Devils up by two on a quick run through the Trojan defense but saw her shot rebound off the far post and out for a goal kick.
The Trojans (7-4-3, 2-1) tied up the game in the 38th minute as Ashley Casas scored her first goal of the season off of a cross from Ali Fennell. That's the way the first half ended and the teams went to the locker rooms with ASU holding a slight advantage in shots 8-6.
Peterson made eight saves on the evening while ASU goalie Kelly Fitzgerald made 10 saves. Several players on the USC squad dealt with the flu as Amy Mann played limited minutes and Kelly Blais did not play for the Women of Troy.
USC travels to Arizona on Sunday (Oct. 20) for a 1 p.m. contest.
