BERKELEY - The Cal men's basketball team will hold an open scrimmage on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Haas Pavilion. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is free.
The team will take the court at 5:30 p.m., and the afternoon will be filled with promotional contests, including free season tickets and a prize pack for two to the Big Game, as well as other entertainment. The Cal Band and Dance Team will perform, and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free Cal Athletics T-shirt.
Students will be able to purchase season tickets, and free pizza and sodas will be provided.
After the scrimmage, an open Question & Answer period will be held on the floor, followed by a free autograph session with the Cal players and coaches.
The Bears are coming off a 23-9 season and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Looking to continue last year's home success - 17 wins, 1 loss - Cal returns two starters in guard Brian Wethers and forward Joe Shipp, in addition to guards Donte Smith and A.J. Diggs and forward Amit Tamir. The Bears have added several talented freshmen, including Richard Midgley, David Paris, Rod Benson and Jordi Geli Vilardell.
The season begins with exhibition games on Nov. 15 against the California All-Stars and Nov. 18 against EA Sports. Cal tips off its non-conference season at New Mexico on Nov. 23, with the home opener Dec. 3 vs. Howard.
