Oct. 22, 2002
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA senior midfielder Jimmy Frazelle has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Frazelle, from Folsom, Calif., helped then-No. 6 UCLA to a pair of Pac-10 wins last week, as the Bruins defeated No. 1 Stanford 1-0 in overtime and downed California 2-1. Against the top-ranked Cardinal on Oct. 20, Frazelle scored the game-winner in the second minute of overtime. It was his fourth goal on the season, his third game-winner and second consecutive game-winner. On Oct. 18, UCLA snapped the 13th-ranked Golden Bears' school-record nine-game win streak.
Unbeaten in its last six games, UCLA is 8-1-2 overall, 3-0-0 in Pac-10 play. The Bruins travel to Oregon State and Washington this weekend. UCLA is No. 4 in this week's NSCAA/adidas poll and is ranked No. 5 by Soccer America.
This is the first weekly honor for Frazelle and the 12th all-time Player of the Week honor for UCLA.
