Stanford Hosts Omni Hotels ITA Northwest Regional Championships

Stanford, Calif. - The Cardinal women's tennis squad will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 25, when it competes in the Omni Hotels Northwest Regional Championships hosted by Stanford University. For the second consecutive year, the Taube Family Tennis Stadium will be the site of this year's ITA Regional Tournament.
The four-day tournament features the top women's players from the ITA's Northwestern Region at the NCAA Division I level. Participating schools from this year's event include: Cal Poly, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's College, as well as Pac-10 foes California, Oregon, Washington and Washington State.
Stanford netters scheduled to compete in the main draw include the following: juniors Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) and Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, N.J.), sophomores Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA), Kara Guzman (Burr Ridge, IL) and Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, WA) and freshmen Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK), Joanna Kao (Fullerton, CA), Jessica Leck (Los Angeles, CA) and Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA).
Stanford's Burdette captured the singles title at this tournament last year and Fresno State's Kim Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim took home the doubles title.
The singles finalists and doubles champions from the Omni Hotels Northwest Regional Championships advance to the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held November 7-10 at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
