ITA Regional Championships On Tap For UW Men's Tennis

SEATTLE, Wash.- Eight singles players and four doubles teams will represent Washington men's tennis at the 2002 Omni Hotels ITA Men's Tennis Regional Championships hosted by St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif., Sat., Oct. 26, through Tues., Oct. 29. The Huskies have two of the top-three seeded singles players and two of the top-four doubles teams competing in the tournament.
The singles and doubles champions from this event will earn spots in the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Brookhaven County Club in Farmers Branch, Texas, Nov. 7-10.
Sophomore Alex Vlaski, a semifinalist at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month, is the tournament's No. 2 seed in both singles and doubles competition. Vlaski pairs with Husky senior Ari Strasberg for doubles, who is also seeded ninth in singles action.
Senior Matt Hanlin is the No. 3 singles seed and pairs with senior Dillon Ruby as the fourth-seeded doubles team. Ruby will also compete in the singles draw, as will sophomore Scott Felsenthal, sophomore Peter Scharler, junior Nick Weiss, and freshman Fred Sundsten. The doubles competition features Husky teams of Sundsten and Weiss, seeded 11th, and sophomore Christoph Palmanshofer and Scharler.
Among the teams competing in this weekend's tournament are Stanford, California, Fresno State, Portland and several other schools from the Northwest Region.
