No. 6 Stanford Defeats Oregon Volleyball, 3-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Oregon fell, 30 21, 31-29, 30-21, to the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal in front of 1,587 fans at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif., Friday evening. Stanford improves to 18-3 overall, 8-2 Pac-10, while Oregon falls to 10-14, 0-10.
Oregon freshmen Dariam Acevedo and Kelly Russell led the Ducks with 10 and eight kills, respectively, while senior Lindsey Closs added eight kills. Defensively, junior libero Lindsay Murphy led Oregon with 13 digs and setter Jodi Bell added nine.
'They were really focusing on Dariam (Acevedo) on the outside and Lindsay Closs and Kelly Russell did a really good job for us in the middle,' Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. 'We handled and served the ball very well and were in this match, which is something I don't think we did last time we played them.'
Russell finished the match with a .583 hitting percentage and senior Heather Gilmore finished with six kills and a .333 attack percentage. As a team, Stanford out killed (49-40) the Ducks, but Oregon held the advantage in digs (47-44).
Oregon faces California Saturday evening at 7 p.m. before returning home next weekend.
