Bruins Fall to Huskies in Seattle

SEATTLE - The UCLA women's volleyball team completed their weekend schedule with a 30-28, 30-27, 30-22 loss to Washington on Saturday night in Bank of America Arena. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 12-9, 5-6 Pac-10 while Washington improves to 13-7, 5-6 in league play.
Washington took a quick 8-2 lead in the opening game of the match. The Bruins were able to come back and tie the game at 12-all, but would never be able to take the lead, eventually falling 30-28. UCLA's kills were evenly distributed in the game with Brynn Murphy, Lauren Fendrick and Teryn Spragg recording five each. Also notable in game one was the performance of Bruin sophomore libero Chrissie Zartman, who recorded 11 digs in the game.
UCLA had a small early lead in game two, but fell behind after the 12-12 mark and would not re-take the lead, despite a three-point run late in the game to close to 23-20. The Bruins hit just .068 in the game, while the Huskies were connecting at a .263 rate.
UW sprinted out to a 10-2 lead in game three before the Bruins started chipping away, eventually closing the gap to 21-18. The Bruins would stay within three points to the 23-20 mark, but could not close the gap any farther, falling 30-22 to give UW the 3-0 sweep.
Lauren Fendrick led the Bruins with 18 kills in the match, while Zartman posted 23 digs in the three-game effort.
The Bruins return home next weekend with a pair of matches against the Bay Area schools. The series opens on Friday night against Stanford, followed by a Saturday night matchup with Cal. Both matches are scheduled for 7 pm starts and will broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com.
