Carter, Klaic Advance To Doubles Semifinals At ITA Regionals

PALO ALTO, Calif.- The Washington women's tennis doubles team of junior Claire Carter and senior Darija Klaic continues to roll through the 2002 ITA Women's Northwest Regional Championships hosted by Stanford University, as the pair won their quarterfinal match, Sunday, to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.
Carter and Klaic, the tournament's third-seeded doubles team, defeated the fifth-seeded team of Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez from Washington State, 9-7. The UW duo will face the No. 2 seed team of Fusano and Kops-Jones from Cal in the semifinals Monday.
Carter was also the only Husky still competing in singles action today, winning her consolation fourth round match over Cal's Jessica Shu, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. In the consolation quarterfinal, Carter then fell in straight sets to Janelle Kaloi from Santa Clara, 6-2, 6-2.
The ITA Women's Northwest Regional Championships wrap up Monday. The singles finalists and doubles champions will advance to the 2002 National Indoor Championships, Nov. 7-10, at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
