Wildcat Soccer Shutout at Oregon State, 5-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Oct. 27) - The University of Arizona women's soccer team was shutout, 5-0, at Oregon State on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats are now 5-9-1 overall and 0-5-0 in Pac-10 play, while the Beavers move to 8-7-2 overall and 1-5-0 in conference action.
Oregon State out-shot Arizona, 13-4, in the first half and scored two goals in the first 18 minutes of action. The Beavers put another goal on the board with less than two minutes remaining in the period and led 3-0 at the break.
The Wildcats stepped up offensively in the second half and out-shot the Beavers, 12-8, for the period but just couldn't find the back of the net. OSU put up two more tallies in the final 13 minutes of the game to win, 5-0.
Oregon State had a 21-16 advantage in shots and led the Cats in shots on-goal, 11-8. Redshirt freshman forward Kelly Nelson (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair HS) led Arizona with four shots, including one on-goal. Fellow freshmen Mallory Miller (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) and Courtney Moseley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) had three shots each, with Miller registering a team-high three shots on-goal. Sophomore forward Candice Wilks (Altadena, Calif./LaSalle HS) contributed two shots as well.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Natalie Juarez (Claremont, Calif. HS) started the match and played nearly 82 minutes, allowing four goals and making four saves. True freshman keeper Amanda Martin (Franklin, Tenn. HS) came in for the final eight minutes of the match, giving up one goal and making one save.
Arizona returns to Tucson for its final two home matches of the season next weekend. The Wildcats will play host to Washington on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., then the Cats will face Washington State on Sunday, Nov. 3, in their home finale at 12 p.m. The UA wraps up the 2002 season in the Bay Area during the second weekend of November.
