Men's Tennis Among Selections For National Indoor Championships
Oct. 31, 2002
SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington men's tennis sophomore Alex Vlaski was chosen as an at-large selection and will join senior Matt Hanlin in the singles draw of the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Nov. 7-10. The event will be hosted by SMU at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
It is the first time in Washington men's tennis history that more than one player has been selected to compete in the National Indoor Championships. Hanlin received the region's automatic singles berth to Indoor Nationals by winning the ITA Northern California Regional Championships. Hanlin was slated to face Vlaski in the final, but Vlaski withdrew, granting Hanlin the championship crown.
The Husky doubles team of Vlaski and senior Ari Strasberg was also selected as the first alternate for the doubles draw at this year's National Indoors. The UW duo fell one win shy of reaching the doubles final at the ITA Regional Championships, losing to K.C. Corkery and James Pade from Stanford in the semifinal, 8-5.
