Tom Tallies 14 Kills And 17 Digs In Sweep Of No. 18 UCLA

Los Angeles, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Logan Tom tallied a match-high 14 kills and 17 digs as the No. 6 Stanford women's volleyball team swept No. 18 UCLA, 3-0, tonight in Los Angeles, Calif. Game scores were 30-25, 30-27, 30-22.
The Cardinal improve to 20-3, 10-2 in the Pac-10 while the Bruins fall to 12-10, 5-7 in league play.
At the media break in game one, Stanford led by one point, 15-14 after an Ogonna Nnamani kill. With the score knotted at 18-all, the Cardinal went on a four point run to force a Bruin timeout at 22-18 after a Logan Tom kill. UCLA took their final timeout trailing 23-27. A Nnamani kill put Stanford at game point leading 29-24. Another Nnamani kill closed out game one 30-25.
The two teams remained close early in game two with Stanford leading 15-14 at the media timeout after a Lindsey Yamasaki kill. A Sara McGee kill at 21-19 forced a Bruin timeout. With the Cardinal leading 27-23, UCLA rallied off three straight points to pull within one at 26-27. A kill by Ashley Ivy and a service ace by Tom gave Stanford game point at 29-26. Nnamani notched another kill to help the Cardinal win game two 30-27.
UCLA jumped out early in game three to post a 5-2 advantage. But Stanford would tie up the game at 6-all and take the lead at 8-7 after a Bruin hitting error. Back-to-back Cardinal blocks gave Stanford the 10-7 lead. UCLA would close to within one at 9-10 but the Cardinal rallied off six consecutive points to take a 16-9 advantage. The Cardinal had a 10 point lead at 26-16, but three straight Bruin points closed the gap to 19-26 and Stanford took a timeout. A block solo by Tom put the Cardinal at game and match point leading 29-22. Sara Dukes closed out the match with a kill to give Stanford the 30-22 win.
Sara McGee chipped in 11 kills and four blocks on the night for the Cardinal. Setter Anna Robinson had 38 assists and 11 digs while Lindsey Yamasaki added 13 digs. Logan Tom also had two service aces and four blocks in the Cardinal win.
UCLA was led by Brittany Ringel's 12 kills and Lauren Fendrick's 17 digs.
Stanford is next in action tomorrow night against No. 1 USC at 7 p.m. in the Lyon Center.
