Nov. 1, 2002
LOS ANGELES - Freshman Jocelyn Leche registered her first career goal 35 seconds into the first overtime period Friday and the No. 13 USC Trojans defeated the Oregon State Beavers, 2-1, in Pac-10 Conference action at McAlister Field. Leche scored in front after sophomore Ashley Casas made a penetrative run into the penalty box and knocked a cross from the right side.
USC (9-5-3, 4-2) rallied from a deficit after Oregon State (8-8-2, 1-6) scored at 48:07 on an unassisted goal by Tessa Baker. Baker scored her second of the season after splitting the defense at the top of the box and beating USC goalkeeper Julie Peterson.
Senior Ali Fennell tied the match at 57:20 with her team-leading eighth goal of the season for the Women of Troy. Fennell flicked a cross from freshman Tina Sutorius into the lower right corner of the goal.
It was the third time this season in Pac-10 play that USC has won by a 2-1 score in overtime.
'We need to play hard all the time with a lot of emotion,' said USC head coach Jim Millinder. 'We can't let up at any time during the game. Our style of play is predicated on playing with pressure and emotion.'
USC plays its final regular season home game on Sunday (Nov. 3) against Oregon at 1 p.m.
