STANFORD CONCLUDES FALL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE AT OMNI NATIONAL INDOORS: The Stanford University men's tennis team will play in its fourth and final tournament of the fall season this Thursday-Sunday at the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship in Dallas, Texas ... The Cardinal will have one singles entry and two doubles entries in the tournament, which is the second of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's three major tournaments this season ... Senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK), who is currently ranked 11th in the nation, received an at-large berth into the 32-player singles main draw ... Martin also received an at-large bid into the 16-team doubles draw with senior partner Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) ... Lipsky and Martin, who were doubles finalists at the ITA All-American in October, reached the quarters of the Omni National Indoors last year ... Stanford's other doubles entry of freshmen K.C. Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) and James Pade (Woodside, CA) received an automatic bid into the main draw by winning the Omni Hotels Regional Doubles Championship on Oct. 26-29 at Saint Mary's College ... Pade and Corkery beat four of the top 10 seeds in the 64-team draw to capture their first career collegiate title ... In the final, Pade and Corkery defeated teammates Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) and Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) 8-5.
PRESEASON RANKINGS: In the Omni Hotels Collegiate Team Rankings (released on September 9), Stanford has three singles players and two doubles teams in the top 35 ... In singles, seniors David Martin and Ryan Haviland (Sumter, SC), who both reached the NCAA Semifinals last May, are ranked No. 11 and No. 22, respectively ... Senior Scott Lipsky is close behind at No. 32, while freshman K.C. Corkery is No. 93 ... In doubles, Lipsky and Martin enter the 2002-03 campaign at No. 2 (the same place they finished the 2001-02 season) ... Haviland and sophomore Sam Warburg are No. 33.
ITA ALL-AMERICAN: Senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK) won the Cardinal's first title of the year by winning the consolation singles championship at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American on Oct. 8-13 in Chattanooga, Tennessee ... After falling in the first round of main draw action, Martin reeled off five straight wins to capture the consolation singles title ... Martin, who defeated Georgia's Nic Boeker 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the final, did not lose a set in the five victories ... Martin also advanced to the All-American doubles final with senior Scott Lipsky.
RACQUET CLUB INVITATIONAL: Sophomore Sam Warburg won the first tournament title of his collegiate career by capturing The Racquet Club Invitational on October 18-20 in Midland, Texas.
