Women's Golf Closes Out Fall Season With Seventh-Place Finish At Auburn Tiger Invitational

Auburn, Ala. - Freshman Tanya Dergal shot 221 to tie for 10th and lead the No. 9 USC women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Auburn Tiger Invitational held at the Auburn University Golf Club.

Dergal, who is from Durango, Mexico, shot a third-round 72 to help the Women of Troy shoot 297 in the final round and finish with a three-round total of 897 (296-304-297). USC finished 26 strokes behind team champion Tennessee (871). Texas was second (878), followed by Arizona (882) and Duke and host Auburn (883).

Violeta Retamoza of Tennessee won the individual title in a playoff with Celeste Troche of Auburn as both finished with 211. Erica Blasberg of Arizona was third (214) and Vira Nirapathpongporn of Duke was fourth (215).

Also for USC, junior Rachel Bell tied for 34th (228), senior Becky Lucidi tied for 40th (229), junior Anna Rawson tied for 44th (230) and freshman Irene Cho tied for 50th (232).

It's USC's final tournament of the fall schedule. The Women of Troy will kick off their spring season on Feb. 1 at the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.
