OSU Finishes Season With Civil War Matchup In Eugene
Nov. 5, 2002
CORVALLIS, Ore. - -
BACK-TO-BACK: With a win this Friday, OSU would finish with a .500 record for the year. Combined with last year's 10-8-2 mark, that would give the Beavs consecutive .500 seasons or better for the first time since the 1994-95 campaigns.
A LOOK AT OREGON: The Ducks (2-13-2, 1-6-1) come into Friday's game having been outscored 37-13 this year. UO has played a tough schedule, facing the likes of Florida State, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Portland - all of which are or have been ranked - in non-league play. Individually, Amanda Orand leads the Ducks with six points on two goals and two assists. In goal, Sarah Peters has a 2.04 goals-against average in 17 games played.
OSU HISTORY WITH OREGON: Oregon State holds a 6-4-1 advantage over Oregon in the 11-game series that dates back to the inception of the OSU program in 1988. Last year in Corvallis, Lindsey Beem tallied a hat trick to help OSU to a 4-1 win that ended a five-game winless streak against the Ducks. OSU won the first five games of the series.
CIVIL WAR PRESENTED BY NORTHWEST DODGE DEALERS: Oregon State and Oregon meet in the Civil War presented by Northwest Dodge Dealers this Friday. The winning team earns one point for that school, which counts toward the year's total. In all, 15 points are up for grabs each year in the Civil War series. So far, the schools are tied with two points apiece; OSU has earned points in women's golf and volleyball, and men's golf and volleyball have earned UO two points.
THANK YOU SENIORS: Morgan Crabtree, Jo Fletcher, Katie Henderson, Whitney Horn, Ashley Johnston, and Mandy Melendez will finish their OSU careers this Friday. Henderson, Horn, Johnston and Crabtree played four years at OSU, Melendez three, and Fletcher two. In the four seasons since 1999, that group has helped lead OSU to 33 wins and have revived a once-languishing program.
