SORTO NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fresno State freshman forward Marvin Sorto has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Sorto, from Seaside, Calif., tallied five points on the weekend as the Bulldogs swept Oregon State and Washington to record their first wins in Pac-10 play. The 2002 season marks Fresno State's first as a member of the Pacific-10 Conference in men's soccer. Sorto notched the game-winner in the 1-0 win over the Beavers, giving FS its first Conference win and snapping a seven-game winless streak. In the 3-2 win over the Huskies, who upset UCLA just two days earlier, Sorto assisted on the first Bulldog goal. The victory was Fresno State's first over UW in six years. Sorto leads the team with eight points on the season.
Fresno State is 5-8-4 overall, 2-4-1 in Pac-10 competition. This week, the Bulldogs will travel to face Stanford on Friday and California on Sunday.
This is the first weekly honor for Sorto and the first all-time Player of the Week honor for Fresno State.
