Husky Women's Doubles Team Advances To Semifinals At National Indoor Championships

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas- The Washington women's tennis doubles team of junior Claire Carter and senior Darija Klaic won its first two matches, Thursday, to advance to the semifinals of the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
The All-American Husky pair defeated Jill Buckley and Amy Trefethen from Kentucky, 9-7, in the first round, before earning an 8-6 victory over Jennifer McGaffigan and Michelle Webb from Illinois in the quarterfinals. Carter and Klaic are slated to face Pac-10 opponent Christina Fusano and Raquel Kops-Jones from Cal in the semifinals, Friday.
The National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships are hosted by Southern Methodist University and will continue through Sunday, Nov. 10.
The tournament features a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: qualifiers from Omni Hotels Regional Championships held across the country during October, the Omni Hotels National Small College champions, the winners of the Icy Hot/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee.
