Stanford Ranked Sixth In Preseason Polls

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University, which is coming off a 32-3 season and Pacific-10 Conference Championship, has been ranked sixth in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN preseason polls.
The Cardinal returns eight letter-winners and three starters in 2002-03, and is led by 2001-02 Naismith Player of the Year Finalist and Kodak All-American Nicole Powell (Phoenix, AZ) as well as 2001-02 Pac-10 All-Freshman selections Kelley Suminski (Chester, NJ) and T'Nae Thiel (Weatherford, TX).
In the Associated Press poll, Duke is in the top spot, and is followed by Tennessee, Connecticut, LSU, Kansas State, Stanford, Texas Tech, Purdue, Georgia and Vanderbilt.
In the Coaches Poll, Duke and Tennessee are again 1-2, and are followed by LSU, Connecticut, Kansas State, Stanford, Texas Tech, Purdue, Georgia and Notre Dame.
Stanford takes for the floor for the first time in 2002-03 on Sunday (November 10) when it takes on Love & Basketball in a 2:00 p.m. exhibition contest at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal opens the regular season on Friday, November 22 against Rutgers at 7:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
