Three Cardinal Named To Academic All-America Second Team

Stanford, Calif. - Seniors Kelsey Carlson (Citrus Heights, CA) and Katherine Harrington (Ft. Worth, TX) and sophomore Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA) were three of 12 players selected to the Verizon Academic All-America Second Team for District VIII announced on Thursday.
Carlson, a senior midfielder, holds a 3.36 grade-point average in sociology. The team's co-captain has played a major role in Stanford's top-ranked program, starting in 70 consecutive matches before an injury held her out for three games this season. Carlson has tallied two goals and three assists on the year.
Harrington has played on defense in 15 of the Cardinal's games this year and holds a 3.48 grade-point average in human biology. She has been part of Stanford's defense that has posted 13 team shutouts, including a streak of seven consecutive. Harrington also has two assists on the year.
Barnhart holds a 3.33 grade-point average in studio art and is the nation's top goalkeeper in the country with a 0.24 goals against average. The redshirt sophomore has allowed only four opponent goals and has 12 shutouts in 17 games. In 1483:29 minutes of work, Barnhart has collected 41 saves for the top-ranked Cardinal.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have reached at least sophomore status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have at least a 3.20 GPA.
