Stanford Successful In Second Day Of Omni Hotels Championships

Farmers Branch, Texas - Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) and Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) won their semifinal doubles match and will play in the consolation finals on Saturday at the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Brookhaven Country Club. Barnikow and Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK) each picked up two victories to move on to the singles consolation semifinals.
Barnikow and Burdette teamed up to defeat a duo from Ouachita Baptist 8-2, and will play Jill Buckey and Amy Trefethen of Kentucky in the consolation finals tomorrow.
In singles action, Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA), Barnikow and Barnes each won their first round consolation matches, moving them to the quarterfinals. Barnikow then defeated North Carolina's Kendall Cline 6-2, 6-3 and Barnes dropped Julie Rotondi of Florida 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. Liu lost her quarterfinal match in a hard-fought three set match to Tennessee's Vilmarie Castellvi 6-7(1), 6-1, 7-6(4).
Barnikow will face Chloe Carlotti of Fresno State and Barnes meets Castellvi for the right to play in the finals on Sunday.
