Nov. 12, 2002
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - -
Oregon State men's soccer player Alan Gordon has been named the Pac-10 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.
A junior transfer from Yavapai Junior College in Gilbert, Ariz., Gordon earned his second such honor of the year after a three-goal performance in OSU's 6-3 win over Washington on Sunday.
Gordon, who leads the Pac-10 in points with 32 (14 goals, four assists), scored OSU's first two goals of the match and followed with the game-winner in the second half to lift OSU from a 3-2 deficit and give OSU a season sweep over the Huskies this year.
The win equaled the highest win total in OSU's history, improving its record to 12-6-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the Pac-10.
Gordon's 32 points are nine more than the next closest player in the Pac-10.
Gordon was also named the conference's player of the week for Sept. 24. OSU keeper Peter Billmeyer earned that honor for the week of Sept. 17, giving the Beavers three Player of the Week selections this year.
In all, OSU has had five conference players of the week since the Pac-10 began sponsoring men's soccer in 2000. Matt Olsen (2000) and Aaron McHardy (2001) have also been recognized.
The Beavers play host to No. 22 Stanford this Friday and No. 6 California on Sunday as the regular season comes to a close. Both games will kick off at 1 p.m.
The NCAA announces its 48-team men's soccer championship bracket Monday, Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. The announcement will be broadcast on ESPNNews.
