Schott Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Nov. 12, 2002
BERKELEY - California senior forward Laura Schott has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Schott, a native of Wilsonville, Ore., scored three goals and added an assist in California's 4-1 victory over Arizona Nov. 8, tying the school record for career goals (55). The hat trick was the third of her career. The Cal career goals record was originally set by U.S. national team member Joy (Biefeld) Fawcett ('86-89). Schott is seven points shy of tying Fawcett's career points record (133 points). She is tied for second on the team in points (16) and goals (6), all coming in the last seven games.
The Golden Bears (11-7-1 overall, 4-5-0 Pac-10) are ranked as high as 13th by Soccer Times this week. The Bears earned their fifth straight NCAA Tournament selection, 11th overall, when brackets were announced Nov. 11. Cal opens first-round action Friday against Denver at Stanford, Calif., and if victorious the Bears would meet the Stanford-Cal Poly winner Sunday in the second round.
This is Schott's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Cal's 12th Player of the Week honor all-time.
