Nov. 12, 2002
LOS ANGELES - The 19th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team fell to Pepperdine, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Pauley Pavilion. Game scores were 37-35, 30-25, 30-25. Brittany Ringel led all players with 21 kills while sophomore libero Chrissie Zartman had a match-high 18 digs for the Bruins.
UCLA let four game points slip away in the opening game of the match, but watched Pepperdine fail to convert on two game points of their own before a kill by Katie Wilkins put away the 37-35 opening game win for the Waves. The tame was tied at every point between 25 and 35, including a string of 10 consecutive sideouts between a 28-27 UCLA lead and when Pepperdine took the lead at 34-33.
In game two, the Bruins were within one point as late as 25-24 before Pepperdine scored four straight points and eventually converted the game three win on a UCLA hitting error. Game three saw the Waves hit a blistering .435 as a team, downing 25 kills on 46 attacks with five errors en route to the 30-25 win.
UCLA's Brittany Ringel led all players with 21 kills, and was joined in double figures by Lauren Fendrick with 17. Chrissie Zartman led all players with 18 digs, and Cira Wright had a team-best five blocks with one solo and four assisted blocks.
The Bruins return to action on Friday night in Pauley Pavilion with a 7 pm match against second ranked USC in a Lexus Gauntlet matchup. The match will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by FOX Sports Net. A live audio broadcast will be available on www.uclabruins.com
