Cardinal Volleyball Signs Four To Letters Of Intent

Stanford, Calif. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford women's volleyball team signed four student-athletes to study and compete on The Farm in 2003 announced head volleyball coach John Dunning. Joining the Cardinal next season are Kristin Richards, Michelle Mellard, Njideka Nnamani and Lizzie Suiter.
'We are very excited about the 2003 class,' said 2001 AVCA National Coach of the Year John Dunning. 'It is a very athletic class that combines speed, experience and flexibility for our program.'
Considered the No. 1 recruit in the nation, Kristin Richards hails from Orem, Utah where she attends Timpanogos High School. The 6-0 outside hitter led her high school team to state championships in 1999 and 2002 and was named the State Championship MVP in '02. She was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team in 2001 and '02 while leading the squad to the Junior Olympics Championship in 2002. She was honored as the MVP for her efforts.
Michelle Mellard is a 6-3 middle blocker from Leawood, Kansas where she attends Notre Dame de Sion High School. Mellard is a four-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball and captained the volleyball squad her senior year. A 2001 all-district, all-sectional and all-state selection, she led her high school team to the state championship match where she posted 18 blocks. She was recently tabbed an all-district selection in volleyball for the 2002 season. Mellard recorded 161 blocks in 2001 and 151 in 2002. She helped her high school team to a second place finish at the 2002 State Championships.
Njideka Nnamani is a 5-9 outside hitter/setter/libero from Bloomington, Illinois where she attends University High School. Nnamani is a four-year letterwinner who captained her squad her senior year. She is a three-time Pantagraph All-Conference selection as well as two-time all-area pick. Nnamani was a Champaign New Gazette All-State selection in 2002 and second-team honoree in 2001. A Student Sports honorable mention All-American in 2001, she was tabbed a 'Hot 100 Recruit of 2003' by the magazine in 2002. Nnamani is a 2002 member of the National Honor Society as well. Her older sister, Ogonna, is currently a sophomore on the Stanford volleyball team.
Lizzie Suiter is a 6-2 middle blocker hailing from Carbondale, Colorado where she attends Aspen High School. She was honored as the Western Slope 3A 2002 Player of Year and was an all-conference and all-state pickas well. Suiter ended the 2002 ranked third in the state in blocks, seventh in kills and 10th in service aces. A first-team all-conference and all-state pick in 2001, she helped her team to a third-place showing at the 2001-02 State Championships. Suiter is a member of the National Honor Society and was recently selected as an academic all-state first team selection.
