Nov. 13, 2002
Local prep golfers Peter Campbell and Chris Heintz have signed National-Letters of Intent to attend UCLA next fall, the athletic department announced Wednesday.
On the first day that high school players can officially sign letters of intent, UCLA Coach O.D. Vincent inked a pair of players expected to contribute soon for the Bruins.
'Both Peter and Chris are very excited about the future of our program, and we are lucky to have them,' said Head Coach O.D. Vincent. 'I really appreciate the faith both these young men have shown in me and Bruin golf. Peter and Chris can visualize where Bruin golf will be in the near future.'
Campbell, voted the 2002 San Diego Hall of Champions Athlete of the Year, earned 2002 first-team All-Avacado League, All-San Diego North County, CIF and State honors. He also earned San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic honors. In addition, he finished eighth in the 2002 Junior World Golf Championships and was the top American finisher. Finally, he was voted an AJGA Polo All-American in September. He is ranked 26th by Golfweek/Titleist
Heintz, who attends Brea-Olinda High in Brea, placed second in the Las Vegas Founders, fourth in the AJGA Spokane Junior Tournament with scores of 72-68-69-209 (-8), and tied for ninth at the Mission Hills Club Corp event.
