Men's Golf Signs Jonathan Green

Nov. 14, 2002

CORVALLIS, Ore. - -

Jonathan Green has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for Oregon State University beginning in the 2003-04 season, OSU head coach Brian Watts announced Thursday.

Green, a native of Sisters, Ore., was a first-team all-state selection as a freshman and sophomore at Sisters High School, and was selected to the Junior America's Cup team in 2002.

Green also qualified for the 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur and advanced to the match play portion of the championship, which meant he was among the final 64 competitors.

With over 90 wins in his junior career, Watts feels Green should fit into the mix immediately.

'Jonathan is comfortable winning tournaments,' Watts said. 'It's an attitude that comes from having been there before, which is certainly the case with Jonathan. His fundamental skills and work ethic will bring him great success at the collegiate level.'

Green also won last year's district championship as a junior, has won 16 of 27 high school tournaments, and was selected to the Hogan Cup team in 2001 and 2002.

'I have very high expectations for Jonathan in the classroom as well as on the golf course,' Watts said. 'He has proven himself in both arenas, and we look for him to continue his success throughout his college career and beyond,' Watts said.
