Nicole Powell Named As Preseason Candidate For Naismith National Player Of The Year Honors

STANFORD, Calif. - For the second consecutive year, Stanford University's Nicole Powell has been named a 'Preseason Candidate' for the prestigious Naismith National Player of the Year Award.

Last season, Powell was named as one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Award after she averaged 16.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest. She was also named a 2001-02 Kodak All-American and the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Year.

In addition, Powell has been named a 2002-03 Preseason All-American by the Associated Press, Lindy's, Athlon and Basketball News. Powell was joined on the five member Associated Press Preseason All-American first team by Alana Beard of Duke, Chantelle Anderson of Vanderbilt, Diana Taurasi of Connecticut and Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas.
