Swimming Signs Four Prep Stars

Nov. 15, 2002

American record-holder Larsen Jensen, U.S. national-title winner Kalyn Keller and prep All-Americans Cait Conneally and Sam Masson have signed letters of intent with USC, Trojan Swim Coach Mark Schubert announced today.

Jensen, 5-foot-11, and a senior at Mission Viejo (Calif.) High, is the American record holder in the 800m free, a mark he set when he won the silver medal at the 2002 Pan Pacific Championships. He also won the bronze medal in the 1500m free at the same meet.

One of the youngest members of the U.S. men's national team, he was second in the 1500m free and fourth in the 400m free at the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals and was fourth in the 1500m free and fifth in the 800m free at the 2002 U.S. Spring Nationals, earning Rookie of the Meet honors.

Keller, 5-foot-6, preps at Arcadia High in Phoenix, Ariz. Another U.S. national team member, she most recently competed at the 2002 Short Course World Championships, finishing fifth in both the 400m and the 800m free.

She won the 800m free at the 2001 U.S. Summer Nationals and took third in the 400m free and sixth in the 200m fly at the same event. At the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals, she was third in the 400m free, sixth in the 1500m free and seventh in the 200m free. She also competed for the 2001 U.S. Goodwill Games team.

In 2000, she won the U.S. 5K national title and was a two-time U.S. Olympic Trials finalist when she was only 15, finishing fourth in the 800m free and sixth in the 400m free. At the 1999 Pan Am Games, she won bronze in the 200m fly.

Keller's older brother, Klete, was a three-time NCAA champion at USC and won two medals at the 2000 Olympics.

Conneally, from North Canyon High in Phoenix, Ariz., is a member of the 2002 U.S. National Junior team. She was seventh in the 100m free and eighth in the 50m free at the 2002 U.S. Spring Nationals. She was also sixth in the 50m free and eighth in the 100m free at the 2001 U.S. Open. Earlier this month, Conneally won Arizona state titles in the 200y free and the 100y fly. Her 1:47.00 in the 200y free was the fastest prep time in the nation this year.

Masson prepped at Eagle (Idaho) High. Masson was a bonus finalist in the 100m back at the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals and also raced in the 200m back.
