UCLA Swimming Recruit Signs National Letter of Intent

Coach Cyndi Gallagher has signed another recruit to a National Letter of Intent. Amy Thurman will enter UCLA in fall 2003 as a true freshman.
Amy Thurman (Orinda, CA/Miramonte HS) is regarded as one of the most highly recruited high school sprinters this year. She competes for the Orinda Aquatics club team and is coached by Ron and Don Heidary. Her top times are: 23.2 (50 Free), 50.6 (100 Free), 55.0 (100 Fly) and 56.0 (100 Back).
'We're very excited that Amy will be part of our team next year,' said Gallagher. 'She was a very highly recruited athlete and will have an immediate impact on our team.'
Thurman is the third recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent during the fall signing period. She will join Jeana Fuccillo and Katie Nelson as incoming freshmen in fall 2003.
Jeana Fuccillo (Lebanon, IL/Althoff Catholic HS) is a national junior team member and was a finalist in the 200 and 400 Individual Medley at the 2002 Senior National Championships. Fuccillo is a member of the Rockwood Swim Club and is coached by Mary Liston. Her top short course (yards) times are: 2:00.6 (200 IM), 4:18 (400 IM), 2:01 (200 Fly), 2:01 (200 Back), 1:03 (100 Breast), 2:17 (200 Breast). Long course (meters) bests are: 2:20 (200 IM), 4:54 (400 IM), 2:18 (200 Fly), 2:20 (200 Back),
Katie Nelson (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS) is a three-time YMCA National Champion in the 1650 Free and a national record holder in the 1000 Free. She is a member of the San Pedro Peninsula YMCA club team and is coached by Bruin alumnus Dan Halladay. Nelson's top times are: 1:50 (200 Free), 4:50 (500 Free), 9:55 (1000 Free) and 16:27 (1650 Free).
