Marcia Wallis Named Pac-10 Player Of The Year

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Senior forward Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) has been named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Year as announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen today. Joining Wallis on the conference's First Team for the Cardinal is sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA), junior forward Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) and senior midfielder Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, CA).
Wallis has scored 31 points this season (12 goals, seven assists), bringing her career total to 116 points, which ranks fourth on the Stanford career charts. Wallis has helped guide the Cardinal to a 20-1-0 overall record (9-0-0 Pac-10) and its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. A two-time All-Pac-10 First Team selection, Wallis has played in and started in 84 consecutive games, setting the new Stanford record. Wallis also ranks third on the Cardinal career chart in shots (261), fourth in goals (48) and fifth in assists (20). Wallis has notched six game-winning goals and ranks in the top-10 in all nine applicable Pac-10 statistical categories, including points, goals and assists.
Barnhart earned her first all-conference honor in her first season starting in goal for the Cardinal. The sophomore is the nation's top keeper with a 0.19 goals against average and has posted 16 shutouts. Barnhart has only allowed four opponent goals, including a record-setting lone score in Pac-10 conference play.
Ward, a native of Alamo, Calif., is a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree and was selected to the First Team this year. Ward leads Stanford's offense with 33 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. The junior also set the Cardinal's career record for total assists (38) and ranks fifth for points with 106. Ward has tallied one goal or an assist in 16 of Stanford's 21 contests.
Withers, a two-time honoree, was the fourth Cardinal to be named to the First Team. The Los Altos Hills, Calif. native has five goals for Stanford, including 48 shots. Withers has orchestrated the offense from the midfield that has outscored opponents 160-13.
Junior Allyson Marquand (Irvine, CA) was selected to the Pac-10 Second Team, marking her second all-conference honor. Marquand netted Stanford's game-winner in overtime against Cal to advance the Cardinal into the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament. Marquand, enjoying her first injury-free season, has started all 21 contests for Stanford, tallying two goals and three assists as midfielder.
Junior defenders Alisan Pabon (Dallas, TX) and Natalie Spilger (El Cajon, CA) earned Honorable Mention accolades. Pabon and Spilger have guided the Cardinal defense in allowing only 115 opponent shots, four goals and have combined to record 17 team shutouts. Each have contributed to Stanford's offense, Pabon has three assists while Spilger assisted Wallis' goal at Cal.
Freshmen Jennifer Farenbaugh (Reseda, CA) and Hayley Hunt (San Marino, CA) also join Pabon and Spiler on the Honorable Mention team. Farenbaugh ranks third on the team with 18 points (seven goals, four assists) and netted her first postseason goal against Cal Poly in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Hunt is one of only five Cardinal to start and play in all 21 matches. As a starting defender, Hunt assisted in the team's 17 shutouts and recorded her first career goal against Arizona State.
