McHardy Named Verizon Academic All-American

Senior Oregon State men's soccer player Aaron McHardy was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America second team, it was announced Wednesday.

A Business major, McHardy maintains a 3.66 grade-point average and is involved in many volunteer and leadership programs off the field. On the field, he is OSU's third-leading all-time scorer, with 53 points, including 22 this year.

Last year, McHardy was a first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar Athlete, first-team Verizon Academic All-Region, and was a Pac-10 Academic first team selection.

To be selected, athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 GPA, be at least a sophomore, and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
