Nov. 21, 2002
LOS ANGELES - The No. 16 Arizona volleyball team was swept for the second time this season by top-ranked USC. The win gave the Trojans (23-1, 16-1 Pac-10) the outright Pac-10 title and snapped Arizona's season-high-tying three-match winning streak. Game scores were 30-17, 30-22, 30-26. The Wildcats fell to 15-10 overall and 10-7 in the Pac-10 with the loss.
The Wildcats struggled offensively against the Women of Troy, hitting a season-low .091 as a team. Arizona managed just 37 kills on 110 attempts with 27 errors on the night. The Wildcats' season-long struggle with service reception helped USC to a 9 to 1 advantage in service aces in the loss.
Despite the defeat, Arizona had standout performances from senior Lisa Rutledge and freshman Bre Ladd. Rutledge recorded a match-high 15 kills on .323 hitting, while Ladd chipped in with eight kills on .323 hitting and also had a team-high three block assists.
Arizona returns to action on Friday with a rematch against No. 21 UCLA. The Wildcats downed the Bruins 3-1 in Tucson earlier this season and will attempt to go for just the second season series sweep over UCLA in school history at 7 p.m. PST on Friday.
