Johan Berg Advances To Title Match At Southern California Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES - USC men's tennis player Johan Berg advanced to the finals of the Southern California Intercollegiates held at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, Nov. 6-10. Berg, who won four matches en route to the championship round, fell to UCLA's Chris Lam, 6-4, 6-3, in the title match.

Berg was the furthest to advance of the five Trojans who competed in the event. The sophomore transfer defeated Mike Placek of UC Santa Barbara in the first round, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5, then received a bye in the second round after San Francisco's P. Piras de Almeida withdrew due to illness. Berg won a three-set match over Carlos Palencia, 6-4, 3-6, 10-2, in the quarterfinals and advanced to the title match thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 win over LMU's Tigran Martirosyan in the semis.
