Women's Hoops Wins Season Opener At Boise State 73-55

BOISE, Idaho - The Washington Huskies defeated the Boise State Broncos inwomen's basketball Friday night, 73-55. It was the season opener for bothprograms.
Washington had four players score in double-figures, led by GiulianaMendiola with 15 points off of 7-of-9 shooting from the floor and had fourassists. Andrea Lalum added 14 and was 2-0f-2 from three-point range. KaylaBurt had 13 points and four assists. Loree Payne had 10 points. Emily Autreyhad five steals.
As a team, the Huskies were 28-of-62 from the floor, 6-of-15 fromthree-point range, and 11-of-13 from the line. The Huskies grabbed 34rebounds and tallied 19 assists, three blocks and 14 steals.
Boise State was led by Abby Vaughan who had 18 points and was 4-of-9 fromthree-point range. She was followed by Mandy Welch who added 12 points andwas 5-of-6 from the line. Heather Little led the Broncos in rebounds withsix. Little and Lynette Grondin also tallied three assists each.
As a team, the Broncos were 17-of-47 from the floor, 5-of-14 fromthree-point range, 16-of-23 from the free throw line, and had 32 rebounds,nine assists, two blocks and eight steals.
The more experienced Huskies won the battle of turnovers as both teamspushed the ball up the court - Washington had 14 turnovers and the Broncoshad 23.
The Huskies out-scored the Broncos by nine in each half, with the half-timescore 35-26, and then the final score 73-55.
Washington (1-0) will now head south to take on 13th-ranked Texas Tech Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2:00 p.m. CT in Lubbock, Texas. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net.
