Nov. 25, 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State soccer player Amy LePeilbet was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American Third-Team, announced Monday. The All-American teams are selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The only Pac-10 student-athlete selected, LePeilbet's national academic honor is the soccer team's first and fourth All-Region selection in the program's history.
LePeilbet, a junior defender from Crystal Lake, Illinois, holds a 3.84 grade-point average in sociology. She was a main component in helping to carry the Sun Devils into the second round of the NCAA Championships, the team's second NCAA appearance in the last three years.
LePeilbet, the team's top defender, played a major role in ASU's nationally ranked program. LePeilbet was the quarterback of the ASU defense, playing middle back, that helped the Devils to tie a school record of five straight shutouts this year. Starting in all 21 matches, she assisted ASU to a 12-6-2 overall record with six shutouts, including five straight to tie the school record.
LePeilbet, a two-time All-Pac-10 first-team selection, is also a member of the U-21 National Team and scored two goals and posted one assist this year.
