Nov. 25, 2002
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Emma Joneby led a contingent of three Washington State players in double figures with 12 points in the Cougars' 81-55 defeat to the Montana State Bobcats in non-conference women's basketball action, Monday at Worthington Arena.
The Cougars' Bianca McCall pulled down 10 rebounds, recording her second consecutive game with double figures in that category. Lindsey Egeland and Kim Dugan each scored 11 points to complete the Cougars' scoring trio.
Montana State was led by Kati Burrows' 19 points as she led a trio of Bobcat players in double figures. Isabel Stubbs (15 points) and Sheila Hutchinson (10 points) rounded out the Montana State double-digit scoring group.
After spotting WSU (0-2) the game's initial two points, the Bobcats (2-0) reeled off 13 consecutive points, seven accounted for by Burrows, to jump out to a 13-2 advantage at the 15:56 mark of the first half.
MSU extended its lead to 37-14 on a field goal by Cassie Johnson with 5:33 remaining but could only manage a free throw for the rest of the half. The Cougars could not capitalize, however, scoring only three points during that span as MSU took a 38-19 lead into the half.
WSU struggled from the floor, missing nine of its first 10 shots en route to a 7-of-32 (21.9 percent) shooting performance in the first half. Despite missing 11 of its last 13 attempts, MSU shot 14-of-30 (46.7 percent) from the floor in the first half.
WSU continues its road swing at the Florida International/Herald Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 29-30 at Miami Fla. WSU opens up the tournament against No. 4 (Associated Press) Louisiana State, Nov. 29 at 4 p.m., Pacific.
