Merrick 16th After First Round at All-America Golf Classic

UCLA junior John Merrick is in 16th place at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, hosted by the Sun Bowl at the El Paso Country Club.

Merrick posted rounds of 78-73-151, nine-over par, and trails the leader by 12 shots entering Tuesday's final round.

TCU's Adam Rubinson leads the field of 24 players after posting a three-under par score of 139 (71-68). Three players trail by three shots in second place and Washington's Brock Mackenzie, who fired a five-under par 66 in the second round, is fifth at 143.

Arizona's Ricky Barnes and Chris Nallen each were tied for 19th place at 153.
