Wildcats Waltz Past Pepperdine, 80-68

The strong inside play of freshman center Shawntinice Polk and seniorforward Krista Warren proved to be too much for the Pepperdine women'sbasketball team to overcome as Arizona handed the Waves an 80-68 loss Mondaynight at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Polk recorded her second career double-double in as many games, scoring 16points and grabbing 14 rebounds, and Warren scored a team-high 20 points tolead the Wildcats (1-1) to their first win of the season.
Junior guard Shandrika Lee equaled her career-high point total with agame-high 26 points to lead Pepperdine (0-2).
After trailing 37-34 at halftime, Pepperdine opened the second half with an8-4 run to take a 42-41 with 17:34 remaining. However, that lead proved tobe short-lived as Polk and Warren took over the game.
Polk scored the next seven points to give Arizona a 48-42 lead and nine ofthe Wildcats next 17 points as they went on a 17-6 run to take a 58-48advantage with 13:29 left in the game.
Warren contributed six points on the run as she and Polk were key figures onthe boards during the run.
Arizona went on to build a 16-point lead with at 70-54 with 9:03 remaining.The closest Pepperdine would come was eight points on two occasions withless than a minute remaining.
The Wildcats used that inside strength to post a commanding 45-33 advantageon the boards, including 28 on the defensive end.
Arizona shot 52.5 percent from the field (32-for-61), while Pepperdineconverted 34.3 percent (24-of-70) of its shots.
The Wildcats had balanced scoring as five players finished in doublefigures.
