Cardinal To Host First And Second Rounds Of NCAA Tournament

Stanford, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team (27-4, 15-3 Pac-10) will host Pacific, Nevada and Sacramento State in the first and second rounds of the 2002 Division I Women's Volleyball Championships. The Cardinal are making their 22nd consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and are one of only four teams to have competed in every NCAA Championship.
The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and placed within four regions. The teams tabbed as the top seeds were Southern California, Stanford, Nebraska and Northern Iowa.
The Cardinal received one of 33 at-large bids to the tournament.
Stanford, the No. 2-seed overall, will face Sacramento State on Friday, December 6 at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the first round while Pacific will take on Nevada on Friday, December 6 at 5 p.m. The winners of the two matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, December 7 at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to regionals. All matches will take place in Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University.
The Cardinal are one of eight Pac-10 teams to make the 64-team bracket (Stanford, Southern California, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State, Washington, Arizona State and California).
