Pac-10 Volleyball Earns Eight Bids to NCAA Tournament

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-10 Conference has eight schools in the NCAA Women's Volleyball tournament for the first time in the 22-year history of the tournament. With eight participants, the Pac-10 ties with the Big Ten for most berths in the 2002 NCAA tourney. The Conference owns four of the top-16 seeds and three schools will be hosting the first and second round of the tournament.
The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and placed within four regions. Among the top 16 for the Pac-10 are No. 1-seed USC, who will host San Diego in the first round in Los Angeles. Defending NCAA Champion No. 2-seed STANFORD, will host Pacific in Stanford, Calif. ARIZONA earned a No. 10 seeding, and will play host to Texas-Arlington in Tucson. No. 12-seed WASHINGTON STATE will hit the road to take on Oral Roberts in Manhattan, Kan.
Rounding out the rest of the Pac-10 participants, ARIZONA STATE will face Cincinnati in Omaha, Nebraska. CALIFORNIA faces Santa Clara in Santa Barbara, Calif. UCLA will go up against Long Beach State in Malibu, Calif. The WASHINGTON Huskies will battle Colorado State in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Teams winning both matches will move on to regional play December 13-15 at four campus locations yet to be determined. The regional host sites will be determined by the committee after the results of the first two rounds. The regional winners will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by the University of New Orleans and the Sun Belt Conference in New Orleans Arena December 19 and 21.
